**Streszczenie:**
Fizyka plazmy kwarkowo-gluonowej od szeregu lat jest ważną inspiracją dla prób
zrozumienia dynamiki silnie sprzężonej plazmy teorii Yanga-Millsa za pomocą
dualności AdS/CFT. Przedstawię niektóre wyniki w tej dziedzinie uzyskane w
ostatnich latach.

ON KNOTS, STRINGS AND QUANTUM FIELDS,

Part 1: Chern-Simons theory and homological knot invariants

**Abstract:** Knot theory is a fascinating field of mathematics, with applications
in physics ranging from biophysics to statistical physics, quantum information
theory and string theory. It gained an enormous boost in the 1980’s after a
discovery of so-called Jones polynomial, and its physical interpretation in
terms
of a topological quantum field theory with the action functional consisting
purely of Chern-Simons term. The last decade has witnessed another series of
fascinating developments in this area, in particular (mathematical) discovery
of homological knot invariants, and their (physical) realization in terms of
supersymmetric BPS states arising in string theories engineered on appropriate
Calabi-Yau manifolds. In this talk we will review an approach to knot theory
based on Chern-Simons theory, and discuss recent progress in relating its
refinement to string theory and homological knot invariants.

ON KNOTS, STRINGS AND QUANTUM FIELDS

Part 2: Volume conjecture and emergent geometry

**Abstract:** Volume conjecture relates knot invariants to hyperbolic
geometry and the volume of knot complements. In this talk we will present
physical formulation of the volume conjecture in terms of Chern-Simons
theory, its relations to string theory, and phenomena such as emergent and
noncommutative geometry arising in this context, which are currently actively
studied.
